As Septimus reached within 50 yards of the group, he tilted his wings, slowing his approach, the Dragon's feet hitting the ground at a slow run, before slowing to a walk as he reached them. "Greetings, men of Daaven" rumbled Septimus with a pleasant smile as he came to a stop right in front of them...

"Why are there so many coloured flags flying. Was there some sort of festival here recently?" inquired one of the Vindicators as he glanced around...

"Welcome, dragon. We don't get many of your kind way out here, I take it you're a traveler?" Urlox replied, the guards with him visibly easing themselves. Hands that lingered over the silver hilts of their swords dropped to their sides and their somewhat hunched posture became straight. "We've been having a lot of travelers lately. Most of the people here on edge, being isolated does that to you, I'd wager" said the burly captain.

"Nah. We just like the colors is all. Helps put a smile on our faces. Haven't seen a smile in a while, though" the fisherman answered. "You bunch going to look at the pub or the hospital first?"

"The Hospital. We need to see what kind of condition your people are in" responded the Archknight, the Vindicators nodding. Once they knew what kind of trouble they were dealing with, they could look into the matter more efficiently...

"Indeed" rumbled Septimus, amused at how little these humans probably knew about isolation. "I was actually pointed this way by a couple of acquaintances. You wouldn't happen to have seen an...ape-man in armour come this way recently, would you? Or perhaps another Dragon?" inquired the Hueilin, deciding not to mention Desrium just yet. This place wasn't too far from where they had first begun travelling together, at most a half day's walk, and judging by what the Guard had said about being on edge, he was expecting this to have been one of Desrium's stops.

Discord's serpentine form weaved through the air with incredible agility, the fire either missing entirely, or randomly arcing off in any other direction but towards the chimera if it got close. "Come on, smokey!" Discord jeered. "You can do better than that!"

Smaug's maw twisted into a snarl as he was about to let another stream of fire, but a large-sized boulder crashed into him from below. The impact didn't hurt him that much, but he felt it, and deciding that the serpentine chimera would have it later, twisted around and descended upon the troops below, the flaming eyeballs conjured from Djinn's magic exploding all around him, but aside from the explosive damage, doing very little at all.

None of them even had time to get out of the way before Smaug landed down on the arena seats, pinning Guame, Djinn, and Byakuren where they were with his feet. Soldiers rushed at him with their swords, and the dragon riders breathed flames upon him, but with a single swing of SMaug's tail, the soldiers were sent flying, and Smaug's own flaming breath nailed one of the dragon riders, blasting the dragon out of the air and to the ground. The fire drake roared with delight, his wings flapping, sending up a powerful wind that sent the soldiers flying into the air... including Dione and Trajan, who landed in a heap in the middle of the collusseum...

The fisherman nodded and said "Right this way then." He led the group down the path to the large building, knocking on its broad doors. A small block of the wood slid to the side and two alert eyes peered through the small rectangular view port that appeared. Upon seeing the Archknight and Vindicators, the person behind the door shut the view port and shortly after the sounds of many locks being unlatched were audible. After a moment, the doors parted, allowing entry into the "lobby" of the hospital...

"No ape-men and you're the first dragon we've come across in recent times, I'm afraid" Urlox replied, stroking his brown beard. "The only visitor that was...out of the ordinary; was that knight from parts unknown that stayed at Syria's inn for part of the night"

The Council agents moved into the building swiftly, eager to find the solution to this and to find clues that could lead them to their target...

"Knight?" inquired Septimus, curiosity piqued. It seemed Desrium had been here. though he couldn't be sure from the brief description whether it was him, or just a typical knight with a behavioral problem...

Sulrana blinked, tilting her head even further, and directed a soft throaty squawk at Shiryaz, the Kestrel mix seemingly intrigued by the hawk, whose golden gaze was so much like that of her Peregrine stablemate. The dwarf smiled proudly at the compliment, giving a genuinely pleased look that was visible even through his thick beard. "Aye, they’re a good ‘ealthy flock. Raised most of’m right from hatchlings, with the 'xception o' this rascal." (He jabbed his thumb good-naturedly at Myrn.) "As fer their pricin', Ah usually ask around sixty gold pieces fer a gryphon, and sixty-five er seventy fer a hippogriff. Only reason is they're a fair bit bigg'r an' tend teh eat more." At that point, the Gryphonner felt Karak's rusty gray-brown beak prod his shoulder and turned to glance at her, reaching into his pocket to pull out a small strip of dried meat. "Aright, but don' tell Thalion," he murmured with a chuckle as the hippogriff took the treat delicately in her curved beak and retreated to the back of her stall with a sound that could almost be compared to a rumbling purr. The male hippogriff however, happened to be peering through the paddock fence into the stable at that moment, and let out an indignant scree, his gaze fixed on the dwarf's pocket. Myrn leaned slowly in the direction of the newcomer, as far as her tether would allow, taking advantage of the dwarf's lack of attention to sniff the air around Andruil for any hint of food...

Inside, feverish patients laid on beds of hay supported by wooden planks, crates beside them serving as tables where half-empty bowls of soups rested on. The air was rich with the scent of burning herbs and incense. Several people were packed into the room, the spread of sickness being too fast for the village doctor and assistants to adapt to properly, leading to the makeshift quarters for the ill. The fisherman walked up to a large desk that was half a palm tree's trunk supported on wooden struts. On it were a candle, books and parchments of various medical worth and behind it sitting in a decorated chair, slumped over was the doctor. He had his light gray cloak on along with his thick glasses, peering into his journal of documented ailments, glancing to the parchments to cross reference symptoms and to find the probably disease attacking the afflicted. So far he had no luck and it was evident on his face, his brows wrinkled, the stress creasing the corners of his mouth. He was so caught up in his work he did not notice one of the few healthy people standing before him. "Hey Doc' Iriol!" the fisherman said exuberantly. "Furosta may be on its way of gettin' out of this shoddy business!"
"What?" the old doctor asked, looking up and spotting the three professionally dressed men. "Oh! An Archknight and Vindicator!" he said mostly to himself. "What do you make of all this?" he asked

Urlox nodded. "Yeah. Strange fellow. Red eyes, walked around as if he didn't notice anything around him and spoke the same. He meant well though, didn't cause nearly as much trouble as people are saying he did"

at the sound of the squawk, Shiryaz's pupils dilated, the golden eyes almost turning entirely black with the scale of the pupils as his own sharp squawk responded to the gryphon. Andruil chuckled as he eyed Thalion. "Are they well trained enough that they wouldn't fly off if given a bit of freedom? I don't think I would be able to provide enough to feed them myself. At least not comfortably" he inquired, at present unaware of Myrn's actions. in a small satchel slung from his back was a piece of dried beef, though the angle meant the gryphon would have to press her head into it to get at the morsel....

The Archknight watched the patients with a scrutinising gaze as the two Vindicators split up, walking across the chamber as they eyed the patients' various stages. Some had swollen lumps on various parts of their bodies. others had pink flesh, still others were bleeding out the ears, and in some of the more extreme cases, a few had traces of blackening of their fingertips and toes. "Well...there ARE traces of magical interference here...But I'm not sure if this is the Blood Omen's doing" Said Makkus, Tacitus looking towards him. "Makkus, I need you to come with me" said the Archknight, before shifting his gaze to Travius, the other Vindicator. "In the mean time, try and slow the symptoms on these people. Cure them if you can. We will be back once we've investigated the inn. Once we've been there we should be able to discern whether this is definitely the Blood Omen's work" said the armoured Archknight before turning towards the door. "You, fisherman. I would like for you to accompany us" finished Tacitus, not slowing his pace as he headed out of the chamber and towards the entrance, Makkus following closely, as Travius moved to the most grievously ill of the patients, his staff shimmering with magical energy as he reached a hand forward, beginning to drive off the illness, killing it within the victim's body while the man's very cells began to revive, brought back from the brink by the power of the mage...

"I see. Interesting you'd mention him. He is an acquaintance of mine. I was supposed to meet him here for some odd reason. It appears I've beaten him to you however" growled Septimus with a grunt. "Would you, by chance, have any merchants or libraries I could take a glance at? I'd very much like to buy a few good books" he added with an eager smile that seemed, to the layman, uncharacteristic of a Dragon of such size and power...

"Call me Bard!" the fisherman said proudly as he bounded off after the Archknight and his Vindicator company. He sped out of the hospital, thankful to be back where the air was fresh, free from the oppressive stench of sickness and the choking scented smoke created by the herbs and incense. He started walking back along the path and turned down the way to the pub. To him, it was no coincidence that many of the people present inside that night were the first to succumb to the plague. He counted himself lucky to have been outside of the village when the "Demon Knight" appeared...

Urlox broke into hearty laughter at that. "Sure! I'd be willing to take you around the place myself!" said the man, turning to the group of guards and saying "Come on lads! Give him the old Daaven welcome!"
“If your intentions are indeed of good heart, then we welcome you to Daaven, may you enjoy your time here” the guardsmen said simultaneously, bowing their heads and splitting off into two groups, lining up side by side along the path. Urlox whirled around to face the Hueilin again, a broad smile on his bearded face. "Trained them well, I did"

Septimus chuckled at the response he was given, nodding. "I could tell. I hope I don't unnerve your charges too much. I would hate to be an inconvenience. I can understand A Dragon my size is not the most....comforting creature to have walking past one's home" rumbled Septimus, lowering his head with a hint of concern...

The Archknight followed silently, considering what he and his comrades had discovered so far. They knew that the village was suffering from the plague. They knew that it was magical in nature, or at least, born of a magical source as opposed to a natural one. However, the individual traces of magic detected here weren't specific enough in the victims to confirm whether this was truly something as unique as the Blood Omen, or something else. They would soon find out though...they were approaching the pub...

"Think nothing of it! The folks here can gawk and complain as much as they want but they can't deny that my judgement hasn't failed them yet!" Urlox replied as he gestured for the dragon to enter. "You can ask your metal friend when he arrives, you can!"

Bard's knocking on the tavern door was met with a gruff yet strangely feminine voice. "Go away!" the unwelcoming rasp said from behind the door. "Oi! Open the damned door you bar-hag!" the fisherman demanded. "I said go away!" the voice shot back before the unseen woman started coughing violently. "There are men here who can help you if you just open the door! We're not here to witch you, honest!" Bard said and the door to the pub opened somewhat. After getting a good look at the group outside, the bar maiden opened the door the rest of the way. "Come on in" she grumbled, the woman's light hair frizzled and wild from lack of grooming. She could not be more than 20, but with the obvious sickness she seemed aged tremendously. Her business was deserted but, stubbornly, she remained. She was convinced someone within the village cursed her and her patrons and she was bent on finding the source of the hex...

Sulrana's swept back ears shot up, twitching slightly as the gryphon's head moved up and down in a strange circular motion that made her look something between fascinated and taken aback. Karak seemed to ignore everything except the piece of food in her beak as she crunched quietly in the back of the stall. "Oh yes," said the dwarf, his attention still fixed too much on the others to take notice of Myrn. "Most of 'em have been rented out teh trav'lers in need of a temporary mount, and not one has gott'n lost yet. They're quite ind'pendant enough teh find food fer th'mselves if they need teh, but they're also very loy'l beasts." The black and white gryph continued edging ever-so-slowly toward where she caught a whiff of something edible, pulling just hard enough to cause her loose tether to begin to slowly slip. "They tend t' adjust well to a firm but gentle hand. Treat 'em with respect, but let 'em know who their master is, and maybe use dried meat or somethin' sweet as a reward fer good be'avior, and they'll soon be willin' t' follow yeh across Aster an' back agin." Just then, the energetic Ereblenn, who had been pacing silently in circles behind the big hippogriff gave an impatient huffing noise and bounced a bit too close to Thalion, who let out a hiss of irritation and stomped the dirt warningly. The dwarf instantly turned to give them a stern glare. "Cool down you two! Ah won' have any more o' that!" In the momentary distraction, Myrn pulled harder on her rope, gaining enough slack to allow the tip of her beak to just reach the satchel- "Myrn!" She was barely able to nip at the lip of the satchel before the dwarf's disapproving voice rang out sharply and she recoiled, backing up to her previous spot and flattening her ears, eying the two men guiltily...

"Oh, we aren't that bad" murmured a familiar voice on the wind, Arashi's presence felt but not seen, the Dragon watching from a considerable distance away. His little endeavour with the humans in the forest had failed to bear fruitful results, and so, he returned to his agenda; tracking down the various things that stood to influence Aster. While Discord wasn't necessarily a major element, he was still worthy of note, if only for his ability to cause mayhem anywhere he went...

"I'm not really sure he's coming here to stick around. If there's one thing I learned about him in the time I've known him, it's that he doesn't stay in one place for long. As wonderful as your hospitality is, I would not be surprised if our stay was short lived" rumbled Septimus as he walked beside the human, feeling somewhat awkward with the size difference. "Still, It'd be a shame to linger on the ifs and whens" he added, smiling. The Dragon's eyes shimmered as the man was lifted from the ground, placed instead on the Dragon's back. "Consider it a little gift of thanks. Bet no one in your city can claim they've rode on the back of a Dragon" he added as his eyes dimmed back to their normal black colour, the glowing cyan irises shimmering, a narrow slits in the middle of them forming the Dragon's contracted pupils...

Andruil chuckled as he eyed the guilty looking Gryphon in amusement. "Adventurous one. It seems she puts you through a lot of trouble" commented the man with a laugh as he reached for his satchel, extracting a large stick of dried beef. drawing his dagger, he sliced a generous piece free. "You need only to ask, Myrn" he said jokingly as he held out the piece for the Gryphon...

"Indeed they can't" Urlox said as he steadied himself upon the dragon's back. "We've got people who can train a Frondfoot and ride horses, but no one who deals with dragons!" the man said, looking at the shocked faces of the city's denizens as they walked along the side of the road, some huddled together as they watched the magnificent sight. "Say, what's your name anyway?" the guard captain asked as they headed down the street, carriages pulled by the giant, frilled lizards moving across the intersection up ahead. They were flanked by the wooden cottages that varied in sizes and design, some having broad, sheltered porches while others had ornate wood stairs angled at a steep incline, the hand rails featuring detailed carvings illustrating the landscape around the timber-city...

"Aye," said the dwarf in a note of exasperation. The gryphon's eyes flicked imploringly from her master to the treat, and when the Gryphonner simply raised his eyebrows in a 'well go on' kind of look, she edged forward, ears still folded back, and plucked the morsel from Andruil's fingers almost politely, not daring to act out right under the dwarf's watchful gaze. As she backed up a pace to enjoy her treat, the dwarf shook his head slightly and mused, "She does seem teh like makin' trouble more'n most beasts Ah've worked with. Could never quite fig'ur her out. Sometimes Ah wonder if it has anythin' teh do with the way she was raised b'fore she came teh me. Heh, Ah don' even know where she 'riginally came from."

once the Archknight had cleared the entrance and was standing within the pub, he turned to eye the woman, noting the discolouration of her face and general state of illness she seemed in. "I am Archknight Tacitus of the Council of Mercutio. We came here on suspicion that a particularly volatile creature had passed through. We have been told you may know more on the subject of what came through this village" said the robed man as he stood before the woman, the Vindicator already investigating the room, swirling white light shimmering at the tip of his staff, the dark wooden weapon shimmering as the runes all across it's form flared...

"Septimus" rumbled the Dragon humbly as he walked, his eyes drifting across the various buildings and people before him. the sights there were to see all around him were intriguing, the Dragon's eyes taking in every detail of the surroundings, from the beautiful carvings in the wood of the timber abodes to the reptilian beasts that seemed to have replaced horses in their purpose, drawing the carriages across the intersection before him. the Dragon eyed one particular group of the city's denizens that seemed shocked, or perhaps even afraid of him, huddled together as they were. smiling, the Dragon's eyes shimmered as a flower was plucked from the ground nearby, floating up before them, the petals plucking themselves free of the plant and leaping off, morphing into several multicoloured butterflies, the whole scene merely an illusion played on the group and on Urlox in order to calm them, and reassure him were he to look their way...

"I find dealing with the mysterious is always entertaining" said Andruil with a chuckle, amused at the gryphon's antics. "In fact, I may well take her off your hands. Along with Thalion and Sulrana, in fact. I believe that makes about....180 gold pieces?" he added, inquiring on the price, skimming a bit off the actual cost after taking into account other expenses...

"Yeah I know what came in here. Saw it with my own eyes" said the barkeep, turning away from Tacitus seconds after and coughing violently. "It was no damn creature though, not anything natural at least" she added somewhat weakly, taking a seat on a nearby stool. Bard stood a short distance away, glancing from the stricken woman to her unattended alcoholic wares, clearly tempted...

A young girl, taken by the display reached out to touch the animated petals, smiling pleasantly when they evaded her grasp, charming her while still maintaining the enchanting veil. Urlox began to chuckle. "I should have a painter commemorate this day with a portrait! Many days onward will the people of Daaven know of 'Septimus, the mesmerizer'!" he said, stroking his beard as he mulled over the prospect..
